Colombian Art & Artists

Yesterday in Portafolio´s editorial the whole section was dedicated to art and in particular the ArtBo 2007 event that starts this week in Bogota.

It is nice to see that within the last two to three years the press has taken a greater interest in the arts. When I first got interested in Colombian art about 10 years or so ago it was in the doldrums. Sure there were events etc but there were very few decent galleries. All this has changed - but there is stil so much more to be done.

Even the local Mayors are starting to create programs to stimulate the arts. Which is great. However, as I have mentioned before, Bogota at least is awash with many artists who are trying to eek out a living - which they usually manage to do. Unfortunately some are left by the wayside. When they have other studies then they can often do something else - but many of them still do not. And therein lies the shame.

I applaud the interest that the press has taken as well as  certain parts of the business and governmental communities - but there is still plenty of room for improvement. Hopefully as this blog continues, I will be able to report them in the future!
